In Old School RuneScape (OSRS), Slayer is a beloved skill that allows players to take on monsters with unique drops and challenges. One of the most popular monsters for high-level Slayer tasks is the Wyrm, a dangerous creature with powerful ranged attacks and a rewarding loot table. In this guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know about killing Wyrms effectively, including their stats, how to prepare for the task, recommended gear, and the  OSRS gold rewards you can expect.

What Are Wyrms in OSRS?

Wyrms are high-level Slayer monsters that require 62 Slayer to kill. They are part of the Kourend Catacombs on Zeah, a special area that also hosts other dangerous monsters. Wyrms are aggressive, and you'll encounter them on Slayer tasks or when assigned to them by Nieve or Konar.

Wyrms are known for their ranged attack, which can deal substantial damage, making them a threat if you're not properly prepared. However, they also offer some of the most rewarding loot drops in OSRS, including valuable Dragon items, high-level herbs, and Wyrm bones, which can be used for prayer experience.

Wyrm Stats

Before diving into combat, it's essential to understand the key statistics of the Wyrm to prepare effectively.

Hitpoints: 160

Defence: 175

Attack Style: Primarily ranged with a max hit of 25. They will also use a melee attack at close range, with a max hit of 21.

Aggressive: Wyrms are aggressive and will attack you as soon as you approach them.

Poisonous: Wyrms are not poisonous, so you don't need to worry about the effects of poison while killing them.

Their high hitpoints and strong ranged attack mean you will need to plan your combat strategy carefully. Let's go over the best ways to kill them efficiently.

How to Kill Wyrms

  1. Location

Wyrms can be found in the Kourend Catacombs, located in the Zeah continent. To access the Kourend Catacombs, you will need to enter through the Shayzien area or use an amulet of glory to teleport to Rellekka, then walk to the Catacombs entrance. Once inside, you'll find a variety of Wyrms scattered around the Catacombs, each guarding an area of the cavern. Be cautious when navigating these areas, as there are other aggressive monsters in the Catacombs as well.

  1. Preparation

Before heading into the Kourend Catacombs, ensure you have the proper equipment, supplies, and prayers to handle the Wyrms effectively.

Slayer Level: You need 62 Slayer to kill Wyrms.

Prayer: Since Wyrms use ranged attacks, activating Protect from Missiles will help reduce the damage they deal.

Food: High-healing food like Sharks, Anglerfish, or Karambwan is essential to sustain your health during the fight.

Teleportation: Bring a teleportation method like Amulet of Glory or Teleport to House in case you need to leave the area for supplies or if you get overwhelmed.

Anti-Poison: Since Wyrms are not poisonous, you do not need to worry about carrying anti-poison, but always ensure you have a super restore potion to maintain your prayer.

  1. Combat Strategy

Wyrms primarily attack using ranged combat, which means you need to plan your strategy around minimizing damage from their powerful ranged attacks.

Protect from Missiles: Wyrms deal significant damage with their ranged attacks. Activating Protect from Missiles will significantly reduce the damage you take. This is one of the most important steps in ensuring you can defeat them without taking excessive damage.

Ranged Weapon: Since Wyrms are weak to Ranged, bringing a high-damage ranged weapon is key. The best choices for killing Wyrms are:

Karil's Crossbow: One of the best weapons for Wyrms due to its high accuracy and damage. Karil's crossbow uses Karil's bolts, which have high damage potential and a high rate of fire.

Toxic Blowpipe: The blowpipe is an excellent option due to its fast attack speed and ability to hit quickly and efficiently. You can use steel or rune darts for great damage output.

Dark Bow: Another excellent weapon for dealing large damage. Use it with broad arrows or Rune Arrows to deal massive hits.

Ensure you bring plenty of arrows or darts depending on cheap RuneScape gold your weapon of choice.

Ranged Ammunition: Make sure to stock up on Broad Arrowheads or Rune Arrows for your crossbow or bow. Broad Arrows are a great choice for cost-efficiency, while Rune Arrows are a reliable, powerful option.

Melee Option: If you want to melee Wyrms, you can bring Primal weapons, but keep in mind that their ranged attack is more efficient and safer to use. Melee is only recommended if you have good defensive gear and are confident in your abilities.

Mobility: Wyrms will use ranged attacks that can be tough to evade, so ensuring you have high evasion or using prayer bonuses like Eagle Eye will improve your DPS and accuracy while taking minimal damage.
