Articulated Hauler

Articulated dump truck (ADT) or dump hauler is a very large dump truck which is atypically used to haul large, heavy and oversized payloads across rough economical geographies, and occasionally over public highways. Normally, these trucks are all-wheel drive and consist of two (2) semi-trailer sections.

Auger

A rotary drill that employs a screw mechanism to penetrate, fracture and transport coal that has been drilled.

Ball Mill

The ore is crushed and sent into a steel cylinder. Rotating steel balls grind the ore into fine particles.

Belt Conveyor

Fire-resistant material OR a rubber like substance. A looped belt for carrying coal or other materials.

Boom

It can have several types of equipment; drifter drills, hydraulic hammers, or man baskets. It is a steel arm that can stretch telescopically and is powered by hydraulics.

Bridge Carrier

It is a mobile conveyor and it is used as an intermediate unit. It can also serve to create a system of articulated conveyors, for instance, between a mining machine and a pile or a conveyor.

Bucket Chain Excavator (BCE)

It is used in dredging or surface mining. This type of heavy equipment uses a chain of buckets which revolve to remove a great deal of material. BCEs are designed to remove material from an area that is below the level of the machine's platform. This makes BCEs particularly useful for excavating when the floor of the pit is unstable or underwater.

Bucket-Wheel Excavator (BWE)

It is an enormous machine that is used in large scale surface mining. A large wheel that has buckets designed for scooping up material is the main feature of a BWE. The wheel turns and constantly scoops more material. A BWE is different from a bucket chain excavator, which also does massive surface mining.

Bulldozer

In the context of mining, a bulldozer is primarily utilized for earth-moving and earth pushing tasks. The blade can move vertically, but is not operational for loading materials onto trucks and hoppers.

Chain Conveyor

In contrast to a belt conveyor, a chain conveyor transports materials that are retained within a vertical wall and a moving discharge gate. The material moves, affixed by the tether of a scraper crossbar, which itself is attached to a line of powered chains.

Chock

A mining system supports the roof with a large hydraulic jack.

Churn Drill

Or, in some circles, a percussion drill is a large boring device that creates large diameter holes. This tool drops a steel chisel that pulverizes the rock with repetitive blows.

Cutting Machine

A cutting machine has a distinct slot of a range of 10 to 15cm along its body. This is to permit expansion of the coal that is to be broken from a coal face.

Continuous Miners

Large, rotating cutters fit with tungsten carbide are used in the underground mining of coal. These machines are rent to remotely.

Conveyor

Conveyor is a broad name encompassing all types of machines and equipment that transfer and relocate material from one position to another. This includes, but is not limited to, belt and chain type configurations.

Crusher

Numerous types of machinery exist in the mining industry to turn massive bedrock into smaller particles down to powders. These types include the jaw, gyratory, compound cone, single and multi-cylinder hydraulic, and Symons cone, are all types of crushers. Then, there are impact crushers, both horizontal and vertical shaft styles, as well as mineral sizers, and there are many more.

Draglines

These are massive excavators with a bucket attached on ropes and a wire cable, and a boom that can reach several dozen feet. The bucket can be lowered and dragged to scour the surface to collect material.

Drilling Jumbos

These are used for underground mining, or in tunneling situations that are too difficult for tunneling machines. A drilling jumbo normally consists of a platform where a miner can stand and load the holes with explosives, along with either one, two, or three rock drill carriages.
